Skyrock is certainly an interesting website. It's amazing that it is so popular among French-speaking individuals, yet almost unheard of in my own social network. The same goes for Google's Orkut... it simply never caught on. Then again, what is hugely popular with American teenagers is used a little less enthusiastically by their French counterparts (i.e. Myspace). And finally, in the middle, Facebook takes the cake by proving to be popular with both groups.
I tend to think that French seventeen-year-olds are a bit smarter than American seventeen-year-olds, based solely on their choice in online entertainment. Facebook naturally works better than anything else, and Skyrock allows all the customization that is lost when going from Myspace to Facebook. So, in reality, French teens have the best of both worlds.
And we're still as ignorant as we've always been. Welcome to America, land of wasted potential.
